The greatest Star-Club show of all times!
50 years of Star-Club 1962-2012: Fliegende Bauten 12 & 13 April!
Deep down in the hearts of the punters, the Star-Club is vibrating as intensely as in 1962 or 1965. Whether you look at Hamburg or the rest of the hemisphere – they are all still raving: about Tony Sheridan, King Size Taylor or, obviously, The Beatles, The V.I.P.s or our very own Hamburg lads, The Rattles. Talk about the present days, though, and even hard core fans don´t want to know. "That would be too good to be true". – "Most of them are dead anyway, aren't they?" "Why should we risk spoiling our memories?"

One can only let the hard facts speak for themselves! "One", like Hamburg´s one and only Beat berserk, Blues addict and performance perfectionist, Uwe Mamminga. The press calls him "Germany´s most famous Blues & Rock promoter", and only recently, he was given the "German Blues Award" for running Hamburg´s Downtown Blues Club in "Landhaus Walter", the "Best Club in Germany". Mamminga is truly dedicated to the Star-Club´s history, and he shares this with "King Size" Taylor. It was Liverpool singer/guitarist Ted Taylor who let his reel-to reel tape recorder run in 1962 in order to preserve The Beatles live at the Star-Club, thus documenting an era that otherwise would have been lost forever. Germany´s "Blues-Pope" Mamminga & King Size Taylor have established a kind of semi-official "firm" in order to get half a century of the Star-Club, powered by Fender & Good Times Magazine.

And hey – they are not all dead yet: Tony Sheridan & The Star-Combo, the dangerously sizzling gang that rocked the Star-Club with "Skinnie Minnie" and "Ruby Baby", is going to appear in their complete original line-up: Apart from Tony, the cooking will be done by Ricky Barnes, 83 (!), on saxophone, Roy Young on piano und organ, Colin Melander on bass and their first drummer Jimmy Doyle.

Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers hit the charts in 1966 with the Beatles/McCartney number "Got To Get You Into My Life" when they were already indispensible at the Star-Club. Cliff Bennett will be on stage just like his rebel sax man Sid Phillips and the above mentioned Roy Young. They are backed by Remo Four drummer Roy Dyke, who has been a Hamburg citizen (almost) since the Star-Club exists, sax cohort Howie Casey courtesy of The Seniors and Ecki Hofmann from the Faces, (not to be confused with Rod Stewart´s London version), organ grinder Adrian Askew from Atlantis as well as his Hamburg Blues Band mate Clem Clempson on guitar: Clem also became a Hamburg boy a few months back and active world-wide due to his pedigree with Colosseum and Humble Pie.

Kingsize Taylor & The Dominos will present their classic stuff again, and this after they had already said goodbye in 2010 on their farewell tour, as well as Germany´s own, The Rattles and The Lords. More than 80 musicians will work their magic on April 12th & 13th, 2012 in "Fliegende Bauten"

More Star-Club heroes will be appearing: Mike Harrison is going to present the hits of his V.I.P.s and Spooky Tooth eras, Chris Farlowe – never "out of time" – will be augmented by Roy Dyke & Co, just like Cliff Bennett. Brian Parrish, lead singer with The Londoners, will be on stage as well as Beryl Marsden and Karl Terry from Liverpool. Uwe was also able to get together the original line-ups of The Nashville Teens and also John Law & The Tremors – for the allegedly last big triumph of the "Star Club Universe"!

But this is by no means all there is: Howie Casey (who was also the noted sax player on Paul McCartney´s "Band On The Run"), will bring his wife Sheila McKinley to the Elbe river – thereby securing a sensational ladies´ spot for The McKinley Sisters – who remain decidedly unforgotten and unforgettable in Hamburg. The whole event will be carefully observed and documented by the one and only Ulf Krüger, who is an accepted keeper of the Hamburg Star-Club heritage. Apart from taking notes & pics, Ulf will be working together with fellow drummer Gibson Kemp courtesy of Paddy, Klaus & Gibson on a double drum kit showcase: A superior spot which, thanks two one left-handed and one right-handed rhythm raver, will be a symmetrical as well as a highly syncopated experience.

Jörg Schulze of Rockpalast fame will film it all carefully for Rock´n´Roll eternity. (Uli Twelker)
